A report published yesterday by the Independent High Level Group on maximising the impact of EU Research and Innovation Programmes has called for a doubling of spend on research and innovation. The report, focusing on the EU Research and Innovation Programme post 2020, highlights the importance of collaborative research as a truly added-value EU activity.
The report makes a series of specific recommendations, which will be used to shape the successor to Horizon 2020 and play an important role in EU budget negotiations. The recommendations include further simplification, greater capture and communication of impacts and opening up the programme to more international cooperation.
As for UK participation, the report calls for “full and continued engagement” by the UK with future collaboration in EU research as an obvious “win-win”.
