TechFirst Women’s Programme

Delivering a National Programme to Get Women into Technology Careers

UK Government launches TechFirst Women’s Programme

Beta Technology is a key delivery partner for TechFirst Women’s Programme, a new UK-wide initiative helping 300 women move into paid jobs in AI, cyber security, engineering biology, quantum technologies, semiconductors and advanced communications by March 2027.

Supporting Women With Jobs

In a bid to redress the balance, whereby women account for only 21% of the UK technology workforce[1], the government-backed programme led by innovation and growth company Plexal brings together employers, training providers, industry networks and regional partners to help women at different stages of their careers – including those starting out, changing career, returning to work after a career break and those looking to progress.

Women taking part will receive skills development, mentoring and career support before being matched with live vacancies for paid jobs, lasting at least six months. Once in work, they will continue to receive technical training and in-work support.

Supporting Employers Access Talent

Employers will be given access to talent through free candidate sourcing and matching. They can also access free technical and non-technical training, plus support with onboarding and continued professional development. The programme is particularly focused on helping SMEs and larger employers access a wider pool of skilled candidates and recognise transferable skills and experience.

As a TechFirst Women’s Programme partner, Beta’s role is to support employers to engage with, and benefit from, the programme.

We’re excited to be involved in this important programme which is designed to connect employers with talented women looking to build careers in technology sectors such as AI, advanced communications, cyber security, engineering biology, quantum technologies and semiconductors.

There is a huge amount of talent among women across the UK, whether they have a background in tech or not. This programme brings together the right support, employers and opportunities needed to help more women build thriving careers in high-growth sectors. It will enable employers to access a wider talent pool and build more diverse and innovative teams, helping them to grow and compete.
